The question: Are there any good wines from Eastern Europe?
The answer: Remember Bulgarian Country wine? If you were a drinker and on a budget in the late eighties or early nineties you probably knocked back quite a few bottles of cheap Eastern European wine. Then a surge of shiraz and chardonnay from Australia – rounded, fruity, easy to drink (and understand), reliable and cheap – pushed the tide of Eastern European reds into retreat. And now? There are plenty of wines from Eastern Europe on high street shelves.
