The start of fall and cooler weather brings about a change in the food we eat as well as the wine we drink. Fall means comfort food including stew and soup. Keep reading for a list of some easy wine and food pairings to try this season.
A Nice and Oaky Chardonnay
A lovely oaked Chardonnay is a great fall wine and will pair wonderfully with a nice roast chicken, which is always a crowd pleasing classic. This is also a great wine to pair with a cheese plate, a creamy squash soup, or a salad. A nice chicken soup will also pair nicely with this wine.
Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot
Nice full bodied reds and most blends pair nicely with roast beef. Meet balls also make for a great simple comforting dish to serve with a Cabernet Sauvignon. Duck will also pair nicely with either a Merlot or a Cabernet.
Zinfandel
A nice Zinfandel is a great match for a beautiful meaty lasagna! The spice and zing in the Zinfandel is perfect for the tomato sauce in the lasagna. Lasagna also happens to be a great fall dish, because you have to bake it in the oven, and no one wants to turn on the oven in the summer!
Dessert Wine
A dessert wine like ice wine is a great pairing for apple crumble!
